Staff from the office of the Ombudsman will visit the Cocos (Keeling) Islands from 15 to 18 June and Christmas Island from 18 to 25 June 2021 as part of the Regional Awareness and Accessibility Program. The Health and Disability Services Complaints Office, the Equal Opportunity Commission and the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (Consumer Protection) will join the visit.

Key accountability agencies responsible for ensuring that government services are delivered fairly, accountably and responsively are visiting Kalgoorlie-Boulder on 4, 5 and 6 May 2009.

The Western Australian Ombudsman, Energy Ombudsman, Public Sector Standards Commissioner, Office of Health Review, Freedom of Information Commission and Commonwealth Ombudsman will hold a series of events to meet with residents, community groups, Indigenous groups, government agencies, local governments and others to:

  • improve access to and understanding of these agencies; and
  • promote good administrative practice, effective complaint/dispute resolution, ethical conduct and appropriate access to information in the public sector.

Reaching out to regional Western Australians
The Ombudsman today announced an important new initiative to reach out to regional Western Australians. 

The Ombudsman Regional Awareness and Accessibility Program aims to significantly enhance awareness of, and accessibility to, the Ombudsman’s services for regional Western Australians.  The Program will also target awareness and accessibility for Indigenous Western Australians.

New Deputy Ombudsman
The Western Australian Ombudsman Chris Field announced the appointment of Dr Peter Wilkins to the position of Deputy Ombudsman.

Chris Field said that Dr Wilkins is a highly qualified appointment, “Dr Wilkins brings enormous public sector experience to the office of the Ombudsman and significant expertise in the operation of independent accountability agencies.”

Joondalup strengthens Australian-Indonesian Ombudsman exchange program
Two staff from the National Ombudsman Commission of Indonesia, are in Australia as part of the Indonesian Australian Ombudsman Linkages and Strengthening (IAOLAS) Program. A visit to the City of Joondalup provided opportunity for the Ombudsman's Indonesian counterparts to gain a sound understanding of the role of local government, and how the Western Australian Ombudsman works with local government to resolve complaints.
